This assistance is necessary in view of the hostilities and the complete loss of the ability to transport grain by sea.
According to the Handelsblatt resource, DB Cargo should help our country in this.Germany is currently studying how to implement a "grain bridge". The possibility of running about 20,000 trains is being considered, each of which can carry up to 52 containers or several thousand tons of cargo.
«As a railway transport employee, I have to ensure that 20 million tons of grain are shipped to prevent a global famine», said Michael Toyrer, Secretary of State in the Federal Ministry of Transport.
According to him, negotiations are underway with Ukrzaliznytsia JSC and with the railways of Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Romania.
DB Cargo also offered to transport grain by rail to ports on the Adriatic or North Sea. From there, grain can be transhipped and transported by ship to the regions most in need, such as Ethiopia, Lebanon and Indonesia. It should be emphasized that according to world analysts, due to the war unleashed by the Russian Federation in Ukraine, the world is threatened by a food crisis and famine in many areas. Therefore, the organization of grain supplies to Europe and around the world is a priority for all civilized countries.
