The Cannes Film Festival is worth summing up. What happened there in the context of the war in Ukraine?

One of the most important events for our country is the online speech of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky at the opening of the festival. He was greeted with standing ovations and loud applause.

Ukrainian director and poet Iryna Tsilyk was one of the members of the jury of the Golden Eye section, which selects the best documentary. She is known worldwide for her debut documentary The Earth is Blue as an Orange. For this film, the director received the award for best director in the category of world documentaries at the Sundance Film Festival. You can read Ms. Tsilik's impressions of the Cannes Film Festival on her Facebook page.

The Marche du Film of the 75th Cannes Film Festival hosted the Ukraine in Focus weekend. The key initiatives of the Cannes Film Market - Goes to Cannes, Cannes Docs Showcase and Producers Network - focused on projects from Ukraine. Six Ukrainian producers and their works were presented at the Producers Network, and within Cannes Docs — a showcase of Ukrainian documentary projects at the production stage, the telegram channel key_investments  stated in a post.

The Ukrainian pavilion was open during the Marché du Film. Many Ukrainian film projects were presented. A charity evening-auction in support of Ukraine took place, where more than 50 thousand euros were raised.

This year's Cannes Film Festival program included two Ukrainian films: Dmytro Sukholitky-Sobchuk's  Pamphir  in the Directors' Biweekly section and Maksym Nakonechny's  Butterfly Vision  in the  Special View  program. At the premiere of  Butterfly Vision , the film crew staged an action against the Russian war in Ukraine. Cinematographers took to the red carpet to the sound of sirens, holding a poster reading: «Russians are killing Ukrainians. Do you find it insulting and disturbing to talk about this genocide?»

The film  Mariupolis 2  by Lithuanian director Mantas Kvedaravičius was also shown in Cannes. The director was killed by bullets from the Russian occupiers in early April in Mariupol. In Cannes, the film received a special prize from the Golden Eye Jury.

Even the world-famous cat blogger Stepan received an honorary award in Cannes. He is now a refugee cat who was evacuated with his mistress from Kharkiv to France.

The struggle in the cultural field, the formation of narratives and stories about the war in Ukraine through cinema, art, business - an important contribution to the all-Ukrainian struggle against the occupiers and for the liberation of Ukraine from the enemy.
