Minister of Digital Policy Mykhailo Fedorov said that during a meeting with the Executive Vice President of the European Commission Margret Vestager, he raised the issue of the need to discuss the possibility of Ukraine's accession to the single roaming space of the EU.
Currently, more than 5.7 million Ukrainians have fled their homes in search of protection and shelter in neighboring EU countries. It is important for them to be in touch with Ukraine.
«It is extremely important that families separated by war continue to keep in touch with their family and friends. This requires the possibility of free or reduced roaming for Ukrainians in the EU, at least until the end of the war, he said.
«We are constantly working to launch new services, even in times of war. And we are ready to share experience with our European counterparts to contribute to building the digital future of the EU. Ukraine is interested in the compatibility of our digital documents with European ones. Our team is already actively working with European partners to develop the European Digital Identity Wallet, » said the Minister.
According to the government official, Ukraine's accession to the EU's single roaming space should be a logical continuation of joint work on Ukraine's integration into the EU Digital Single Market.
