This organization will collect and summarize data on Ukrainian prisoners of war, as well as the dead, missing, illegally detained by the occupiers.

At a briefing on March 17, Deputy Prime Minister and head of the Ministry of Transport and Communications Iryna Vereshchuk announced the establishment of the National Information Bureau.

"The key goal of the National Information Bureau is to collect in all possible ways and to summarize data on Ukrainian prisoners of war, dead, missing, illegally detained by the Russian Federation, including civilians," Vereshchuk explained.

The Bureau will also compile lists of dead and captured Russian invaders. This will allow Ukraine to prove Russia's war crimes and, in the long run, to exchange prisoners and the bodies of the dead.

The Deputy Prime Minister explained that the National Information Bureau would act in accordance with international humanitarian law, Article 122 of the Geneva Convention relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War and Article 136 of the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War.

"Given that Ukraine is one of the parties in this war, we are obliged to behave in this way. We are a civilized country and adhere to international norms," Vereshchuk said.

Hotline of the National Information Bureau for the initial collection of information and communication with victims: phone number 1648. For calls from abroad: +380 44 287 81 65.

The line will also function in messengers.

The website https://nib.gov.ua/uk/ will be launched soon.
